Extended Spectrum Beta Lactamases Producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa Expressing Amp C Beta-Lactamase Enzyme

چکیده
This study determined the presence of Amp C beta lactamase producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa among the seventy four uropathogens studied using standard techniques. Results obtained revealed that the studied isolates show an alarming rate of resistance to the extended spectrum beta lactam antibiotics and the penicillin derivatives tested. The combination of piperacillin and tazobactam was however found to exert reasonable antibacterial activity as reflected in their relatively higher percentage susceptibility pattern (77%). 62.2% of the isolates were also sensitive to gentamicin. Of the 74 Pseudomonas aeruginosa tested in this study, 30 were Amp C Beta lactamase producers, 7 and 23 produced inducible and non inducible Amp C beta lactamases respectively. Five of the 30 Amp C beta lactamases producers produced extended spectrum beta lactamases while 21 of the these isolates produced metallo beta lactamase enzymes in addition to the Amp C enzymes. In conclusion, it can be said that there is an upsurge of Amp C beta lactamase producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa and treatment should only be commenced only prior to knowing the sensitivity pattern of Amp C isolates

Background and Objective: Klebsiella pneumoniae is one of the most important causative agents both in form of hospital acquired and community-acquired infections. This bacterium is one of the most prevalent pathogens that is isolated from hospitals and is associated with high mortality rates. The uprising trend of multi drug resistance among Klebsiella pneumoniae has limited the treatment optio...

This study determined the plasmid profile and antibiotic resistance patterns of extended spectrum beta lactamases producing Pseudomonas aeruginosa expressing Amp C beta lactamase enzyme using standard procedures. Results obtained revealed that 32 (43.2%) had one plasmid, 37(50%) had two plasmids while the remaining five carried three plasmids each. The plasmid sizes ranged from 800bp to 25000-b...

ABSTRACT Background and Objectives: Pseudomonas aeruginosa is the most frequent opportunistic pathogen isolated from the sputum of patients with cystic fibrosis (CF). Resistance to β -lactam antibiotics may arise from over expression of the naturally occurring AmpC cephalosporinases or acquired extended-spectrum β-lactamases (ESBL). The aim of...

Background and Objective: Burn wound infections caused by Pseudomonas aeruginosa exhibiting β-lactam antibiotic resistance are one of the greatest challenges of antimicrobial treatment. In this context, P. aeruginosa strains harboring resistance mechanisms, such as production of extended-spectrum beta-lactamases have the highest clinical impact no the management of burn wound infections. The ai...

Pseudomonas aeruginosa is an opportunistic pathogen which is naturally resistant to a large range of antibiotics like lots of Beta–Lactams (penicillins, cephalosporins and carbapenems) and may cause additional resistance after unsuccessful treatment. The understanding of beta-lactamase identification and detection in these bacteria is very valuable. In recent years a number of variety of new be...
